We’re the 2007 Recipient of Portland Oregon Visitors Association President’s Award!

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Walking Tours was honored today with the Portland Oregon Visitors Association (POVA) President’s Award for its contribution to the city’s successful tourism industry.

“From Portland’s award-winning urban planning achievements to our renowned culinary scene, Portland Walking Tours perfectly showcase what makes our city amazing,” said Jeff Miller, Portland Oregon Visitors Association president and CEO. “The popular walks give visitors an intimate look at Portland, from our downtown art and architecture to the haunted history of Old Town.”

The President’s Award recognizes businesses and individuals making significant, positive impacts on the region’s tourism industry. Since 1985, POVA has awarded more than 90 of these coveted awards and, this year, Portland Walking Tours is honored along with the Portland Center Stage/Gerding Theater and the Portland Indie Wine Festival.

Portland Walking Tours has been officially leading organized tours in town since 2000 in addition to providing step-on guides, school tours and group bus tour services. Now with 14 employees, the company continues to expand, offering a variety of tours year round.

“All of us here love showing off Portland to visitors and making natives fall in love with the city all over again,” said David Schargel, founder of Portland Walking Tours. “Receiving POVA’s President’s Award is incredible validation of a business that essentially began as a hobby nearly a decade ago.”

With three daily tours and two specialty tours offered every week, Portland Walking Tours has walks for all interest areas. The new Beyond Bizarre tour, a nightly ghost-hunting expedition beginning this Sunday, July 1, joins the existing cultural tours Best of Portland and Underground Portland tours and the weekend Epicurean Excursion culinary tour.
