Big parades and a new Rose Queen

June 7th, 2011

Rose Festival activities are happening fast and furious – rain or shine.

This week’s activities are highlighted by two parades and the coronation of 2011’s Queen Rosaria.

The first parade – a favorite among many Portlanders with school-age children – is the Junior Parade, Wednesday, June 8 at 1 PM. As usual the Grand Marshall is a fun and lovable character – this year, none other than the snack-loving Scooby Doo.

The Grand Floral Parade starts Saturday, June 11, at 11 AM. This year’s theme, the “Carnival of Roses”, reminds spectators that the first Rose Festivals were Mardi Gras-style celebrations. Throw me something, Mister!

The parade reveals and showcases one of Portland’s best-kept secrets – the newly crowned Queen Rosaria, who is crowned at 8:30 AM on Saturday.

Rose Festival events continue thru June. Get into the fun!
