Portland in July: Always beer-thir(s)ty

July 19th, 2013

Portland isn’t called “Beervana” without reason.

This weekend kicks off the first of two amazing beer festivals that will coat your taste buds with tasty suds.

The Portland International Beer Festival kicks off Friday at the Pearl District North Park Blocks, boasting over 150 world-class beers from 16 countries, including top rated Barley Wines, Imperial Stouts, Double IPA’s, Barrel Aged Strong Ales, funky Farmhouse Saisons, and Sour Ales. Of course, there’s great grub and music too. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate. Entry includes official PIB glass & 10 beer tickets. Beers run anywhere from 1 to 7 tickets; more tickets available for $1 each.

Then, with just enough time to get that “Beers of the World” T-shirt cleaned, you can head to Waterfront Park for the Oregon Brewer’s Festival, with 84 more beers from all over the US, including 24 first-time breweries. This event, the largest outdoor beer festival in North America, runs Wednesday thru Saturday noon to 9 and Sunday noon until 7 PM. Entry is free but to drink you need to buy a festival glass and $1 tokens; tastes are 1 token each.
